Sidney’s P.O.V.

The next day, I was done with morning skate and was drying off from the shower. All of the guy have been talking about Raina all day and telling how hot she was. But, there was something about her I needed to figure out first.

That’s when Jordan pointed it out.

“So, Sid, have you noticed the way Raina kind of holds back on ya?” he said pulling up his jeans.
I gave him a puzzled look. “Not really. I mean, she’s kind of stiff at times, but she could just be nervous,” I said defending her.
Jordan grinned, “Did you notice the ring around her ring finger?”
I started to tense up and think about it for a second. Ring? I remember seeing a really beautiful diamond one, but I didn’t think anything of it. I’ve been in her house. No one else is ever there, besides Millie.
“Jordan, it could just be something stupid, like… I don’t know, maybe her grandma gave it to her or something.”
“Her grandma,” Marc-Andre laughed. “Dude, that’s an engagement ring.”
I started to get nervous and sweat. Maybe she is engaged and is just playing me. It’s definitely not the first time, that’s for sure.
“I’ll just have to talk to her about it. I’m sure it’s not too much to worry about.”
Jordan chuckled. “Yeah, it’s not too much to worry about. Just don’t think about her screaming some other guys name tonight, and making his breakfast in the morning.”
I glared at Jordan and threw on my coat. “Fuck off, Jordan.” I walked quickly to my Range Rover and dialed Raina’s number.
She answered in a few short rings. “Hello?” she said with kids in the background.
“Hey, Raina, It’s Sidney.”
I heard her voice light up, “Sorry, I didn’t have time to look at the caller ID. What’s up? Thanks for last night.”
I let out a chuckle. “No problem. Thanks for coming. Um, I was wondering what you’re doing tonight after the game.”
“Well, I can’t go out, because of work. I cut it close today.”
I sighed. “Well, can I come over after the game? I kind of want to talk about something.”
I could tell she got nervous. “Um, sure, just call before you come. I don’t want to be sleeping,” she laughed.
By saying that, I got curious wondering if she needed time to hide something. “Alright, well I’ll let you get back to work. See ya tonight.”

Raina’s P.O.V.

I hung up with Sidney and looked at Mel, who was giving me a dirty look. “What?” I snapped. I was getting a short fuse with her today.
“You do know you’re at work, right?” she glared, “And was late on top of it.”
“And you never came in late,” I said rolling my eyes. The day seemed to drag on. I guess the fact I wanted to get home and see Sidney didn’t help. I sat down for the game and got ready to watch the Penguins face the Senators.

Half way through the game, my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID and my face lit up. “Hey, Jay,” I answered excitedly.
“Hey, Raina,” he said with a chuckle. “What’s up, girlie?”
“Nuffin, watching the pens game, what about you?” I said getting up to make a pizza.
“Whoa, you’re actually watching a hockey game?” he said surprised.
I kind of froze, not sure if I should tell him about Sidney. After all, Jay was Justin’s best friend. “Yeah, I just wanted to get back into it, I guess. So, how have you been, buddy?”
“Pretty good, school’s killing me,” he laughed. “How’s the day care?”
I sighed. “Same old, same old I guess. How’s Kendra?”
“Great. I’m thinking about asking her to marry me,” Jay said nervously.
My own heart sank. I looked down at my engagement ring that now met nothing. “When you gonna do that?” I asked, really not caring.
“Maybe New Years Eve, when the ball drops,” he said as I turned on the oven.
“Well, I wish you all the luck,” I said sitting back on the couch to watch the game.
“Thanks, so have you been seeing anyone?”
I bit my lip nervously. “Well, kind of.”
“What?” Jay said very surprised. “I was just asking to be nice. Who’s the lucky guy?”
“You won’t believe me,” I laughed.
“Common, tell,” he said wanting answers.
I sighed, with a light laugh. “Sidney Crosby.”
Jay started busting out in laughter. “You’re right, that was a good one. Okay, really who? Brad Pit?”
“Sidney Crosby,” I stated more serious this time. “I met him when I went to set up stuff for the day care. He’s a really nice guy.”
Jay was speechless for a moment. “I’m surprised. You won’t even go for a normal guy. Raina,” he said pausing, “are you sure you’re ready for this? I mean, this is a huge step. Not just for you, but for anyone who would want to date a hockey player.”
“We’re not even dating, Jay. We’ve just been on a few outings, that’s all.
He let out a sigh, “Just let me know what you decide, Raina. I don’t want to see you hurt. I love you, babe.”
“I love you too, Jay Bird,” I said with a grin.
“Fuck you,” he laughed.

We talked for till the game was over and I told him I had to get ready for ‘bed’. I straightened up the apartment and myself. About 20 minutes later, I heard a knock at the door. I started to get nervous and ran to answer it. I opened the door and seen Sidney’s smiling face. Even after the losing game, he was still somehow in a good mood.
“Hey you,” he said pulling me into a hug and kissing my cheek.
“Hi,” I said happily. “Come in, sit down,” I said leading him inside as Millie ran over to him and started sniffing his leg. “You played a good game. I’m sorry about the loss.”
Sidney just shrugged and sat on the couch. “It happens. I’ve been trying to let it go, and stay at the rink, but sometimes I just get so frustrated.”
I nodded and sat down on the love seat. “I know exactly how you feel, Sid.”
Sidney just sat back and let out a breath of air. “So, how was your day?” he said getting comfortable on the couch.
“Same old, same old,” I laughed. “I did get to watch a pretty good looking guy on tv though,” I said giving him a wink.
“Oh yeah,” he said with a grin. “Were you watching Laguna Beach or something?” he said grinning.
“No,” I said sticking out my tongue. “And I’m lucky enough to have that good looking guy on my couch right at this moment,” I said sitting next to him.
Sidney grinned and went to kiss me, but something held him back. “Raina,” he said nervously. “Can I ask you something?”
I knew exactly where this was going, and my heart started to race, and I felt like it was in my head, and started sweating. “Uh, sure, Sid. What’s on your mind?”
He sat back a bit and took a deep breath. “I don’t mean to be prying or nosey, but I need to find something out before I get too attached.”
“I understand,” I said looking down at hands, as I played with my ring.
Sidney picked up my left hand and held it. “I just wanna know if this means anything,” he said nervously.
I started to tear up thinking about it. I knew Sidney wasn’t trying to be an asshole, he was just curious. I took my empty hand and whipped away a tear that started to fall.
Sidney realized I was getting upset and dropped my hand. He whipped away another tear that fell and hushed me. “Raina, I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t mean to make you cry. I was just wondering. I’m sorry,” he said pulling me closer to him.
“I know, Sid,” I said trying not to let my voice crack. “It’s an extremely long story and I’m not sure how to tell you,” I said pulling my knees up to my chest and Sidney put his arm around me.
“You don’t have to tell me if you’re not ready, Raina. I’ll be ready to listen any time.”
“Are you sure you really wanna hear?” I laughed.
Sidney smiled and kissed me. “Of course I want to know, silly. I want to know everything that’s going on in that pretty little head of yours.”
I smiled and sat up. “Well, I guess I should start out by telling you about my family. I’m adopted.” Sidney’s eyes widened in awe and I continued. “My parents were killed in a car accident after we moved back here. My brother, Seth, was killed too. I was put up for adoption by my grandmother because no one could really raise me. The family I was adopted into took me when I was ten. I’m an only child to them, since my mom couldn’t have children.”
“Just a wonder, but why did they adopt an older kid?” Sidney asked interested in my story.
“Well, they were asking about older ones, since they didn’t have a lot of time to spend on a baby, and just wanted the joy of kid. They were asking about some of the kids, and heard about how long I’ve been there and took me,” I said with a light smile. I loved the fact someone actually cared enough for me to take me into their own family like that.
“That’s awesome,” Sid said smiling.
“Yeah, so I grew up in Pittsburgh. Well, when my family was alive, I lived in Chicago for a while because of my dad’s job. That’s when I first seen the Penguins, and they won the cup.”
“Holy shit,” Sidney said laughing. “That’s nuts!”
I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Yeah, it’s crazy. But then I was raised outside of Pittsburgh and had a pretty decent school. By 10th grade, I met a kid, Justin. Honestly, I was in love. He proposed to me our senior year. We were going to go to college together and such. I was going to be a teacher and he wanted to be a kid’s doctor.”
“What happened?”
I took a huge, deep breath, knowing this was going to be rough. Sidney was the first guy I let into my life and was the first guy I was telling this story to. I just had to be strong and try not to cry too much. “It was our senior years, May 15, and Justin and I were on our way to a party. All week, Justin’s parents thought he was doing drugs. His brother was a hardcore junkie, and stole from his friend and hid the shit in Justin’s room. So, Justin had a drug test and it was negative. Kenny, his brother, actually set him up.”
Sidney gave me a weird look. “Why?”
“He was jealous of everything Justin had. I donno, he was just a low life.”
“I can tell. So, what happened at the party? Did he cheat on you or something?”
I shook my head. “We didn’t even make it to the party,” I said tearing up. “I let go of Justin’s hand to text Jay, and all I heard was a gunshot and looked up and seen Justin fall to the pavement.” I started to choke up my words. Sidney just held my hand, not saying a thing. I collected myself and whipped the tears away once again. “Kenny and Matt, the kid he stole from, showed up, and it was Matt who shot him. Justin ended up dying that night at the hospital.”
Sidney pulled me into a hug as I started to cry. “You don’t tell this story often, do ya, Raina?” he whispered. I shook my head as I buried it into his neck. “It’s okay, sweetie.”
Sidney rubbed my back and kissed my head. I sighed and finally pulled my head up. “I’m sorry, Sid. I know I act kind of weird around you, but you’re the first guy I’ve actually let in three years.”
Sidney gave me a tissue and ran his hand through my hair. “It’s understandable, Raina. I’d be a train wreck, myself. Look, if you need me to lay off, or go slower, or even just be a friend, I’ll do that for you.”
I looked up and met Sidney’s gaze and smiled. “Thanks, Sid. I honestly can say I want to move on, and I couldn’t have picked a better person to change my mind.”
A huge smile came to Sidney’s face. He gave me a light kiss and pressed his forehead against mine. “You’re an amazing girl, Raina.” I smiled and started to say something but Sid cut me off. “Talking about depressing things makes me hungry. Let’s see what you got in this fridge of yours.”

\\.::=Nine=::.//

Work on Wednesday was just like any other, and as I was waving bye to Mel and walking to my car, I noticed and something on my hood. There were a beautiful bouquet of flowers on my car and as I picked them up, I seen a note on them.

Raina,
I just want to say thanks for the other night. I had a blast. I hope we can do it again. Maybe we can tonight? Colby’s having a party at his place. Call me for details and let me know. Its okay if you don’t want to. Thanks again. Talk to you later.
Sidney.

I smiled widely and got in the car. I drove home and ran inside, putting the flowers in a vase. I grabbed my phone and called Sidney. It took a while to ring, but he answered.
“Hello,” he said laughing. I heard kids in the back yelling his name.
“Hey there,” I said smiling, wondering what was going on.
“Guy, stop please,” I heard him mumble to them. “Hey, sorry, the kids are beating me up,” he said trying to get air.
I could help but laugh. “And I thought you were a mighty hockey player,” I laughed.
“Yeah, well you take on four Lemieux kids at one time and see how you do!”
“I think I’d jump in and help them,” I said teasing him.
“I‘d take you out first.”
“Pshh, you wish,” I said smirking. “So, how about I got an unexpected gift on my car today?”
Sidney’s voice got shaking, but happy. “Oh yeah, what was it?”
“Beautiful flowers. Some stud got em for me and invited me to a party.”
“I have compaction, eh?”
“I think so.”
“So, you gonna go with this guy to that party?”
“Depends on what’s going on at this party.”
“Well, it’s a sleep over.”
“Sidney!” I yelled into the phone.
He laughed. “No, not like that, pervert! Colby’s having a sleep over, and we’re gonna wear footy pjs, eat popcorn, and watch movies. You can even bring Millie if you want. And I’ll make sure we don’t stay up too late so you can make it to work.”
I smiled at the thought. What would hurt? It’d be kind of fun. “Sure. What time does it start?”
“Seven. I can pick you up at six because I’m going early.”
“Okay. I’ll go get ready.” We said goodbye and I jumped in the shower. I dried my hair, straightened it, and put it into two braids. I put light make up on and looked around for footy pjs. Who the fuck wears these at such an age?! I looked at the clock and seen I had an hour. I threw on clothes and ran to the mall to find a pair. I couldn’t be the only one left out!
I hurried around trying to find them. Finally, I ran into a store and found the perfect pair. They were penguin ones! The lady looked at me like I was nuts buying them. I got a few other things like pop, chips, and cookies so I didn’t look cheap. I hurried home and changed into my new pjs.
I finished getting ready just in time. Sidney knocked on my door and I ran to greet him. I checked myself in the mirror before opening the door. “Hey,” I smiled, seeing Sidney in him outfit.
He pulled me into a hug, laughing. “Hey, Raina, you look cute.”
“So do you, sir,” I said trying not to crack up.
“Ready to roll?” he asked. I nodded and called for Millie. She ran in and Sidney started cracking up. “You got pjs for your dog too?!”
“Yeah, go figure I had some for her, but not for me. I had to run to the store real quick,” I laughed.
“You didn’t have to get them,” he said grabbing the pop. “I was just saying. But you look real cute in them.”
I blushed and looked at the ground. “Thanks,” I giggled. I grabbed my bag, but Sidney went to grab it as well. “I got it, Sid,” I said grabbing the handle.
“Raina, it’s cool. I got it.”
“I’ll kick you, Crosby,” I said trying not to laugh.
He won the battle anyways and took the bag. I grabbed Millie and we headed to his Range Rover. Colby was about 20 minutes away, which left us with a lot of spare time for conversation.
“So, who’s all coming?” I asked texting Mel telling her I might be late tomorrow.
“Jordan, Max, Marc-Andre, Brooks, Tyler, and Kris, and they’re bring their girlfriends.”
I nodded. “This is gonna be a long night,” I said leaning back into my seat. “But time well spent,” I grinned.
We ended up having a conversation about Friends for the whole trip there, which I was happy about. We got to Colby’s and took our stuff inside. Millie fallowed me in and I walked in and seen Colby and some girl sitting on the couch in their outfits.
“Hey, Sid and his hot friend,” Colby said getting off the couch. “How are you Riana?”
“Pretty good,” I smiled. “You’re self?”
“Pretty swell,” Colby said grabbing my bag. “I’ll put this in the guest room.”
“Hey, Colbs, Riana bought your favorite! Combos!” Sidney yelled.
Colby looked at me and hugged me, picking me up. “Thank you! Thank you!”
“You’re welcome?” I said laughing as he put me down. Soon the guys showed up with their girlfriends. We were mingling around, getting to know each other and some were playing video games. I was talking to Jordan, who was extremely friend and not to mention, hot.
“So, are you seeing golden boy?” he asked popping open a beer.
I blushed. “Not really. I mean, he’s an amazing guy, but we just haven’t gone that far. I barely know him.”
Jordan nodded. “Yeah I know what you mean. He better treat you good,” he winked. It was about nine when the boys put away their controllers and picked out a movie. We decided on The Grudge and we all took out spots on the couches, chairs, and the floor. Me and Sidney ended up in the corner of the couch on the floor. It was actually really comfortable.
The beginning was awkward for me. I didn’t know if I should make myself comfortable on Sidney, or just lay there in my own spot. Sidney made up my mind when he pulled me closer to him. The lights were out, so you couldn’t really tell who was doing what.
Sidney took advantage to it. His arm was over my stomach and he was propped up on his elbow. I looked at him and smiled. He was just so adorable. He looked down at me and grinned. “What?” he whispered.
I shook my head and he asked again getting closer to my face. I knew he would back away after the movie incident. I pulled the back of his neck, to bring his face closer to mine. His lips landed perfectly onto mine. His tongue grazed my lower lip, letting me know he wanted in. He then broke apart my lips and my tongue wrapped around his. He held my face and deepened the kiss, push his lips harder onto mine, and his tongue more entwined with mine.
He pulled away with a grin and kissed my nose. I shook my head and pulled his face back down to kiss him again. We did that for a good fifteen minutes.

After we were done, the movie was almost over, and I was beat. “Wanna go to sleep, babe?” Sid whispered in my ear. I nodded and he started to pick me up.
“I wanna stay here,” I said with a chuckle.
Sidney rolled his eyes, “Whatever you say.” He wrapped his arms around me and kissed my head. Within seconds, I was fast asleep.

\\.::=Eight=::.//

Throughout the week, I watched the Penguins defeat all three Canadian teams. I promised Sidney I’d stay up till he was going back to hotel to talk to him for a couple minutes before bed. I took a nap every day after work, but I didn’t mind at all.
Sidney was finally coming home after losing to the Flyers. I was stuck at work, and it was only noon. I knew Sidney was already home and probably taking a nap. It was lunch time and the kids were eating their snack.
We were sitting in the room with the kids as my phone rang. “Ooh, who could that be?” Mel said grinning.
“Stop that,” I said rolling my eyes. It got really old, really fast, hearing my family and friends talk about the little date. “Hello,” I said ignoring Mel’s kissy face.
“Hey, Raina,” a cheerful voice said.
“Hey, Sid, what’s up?”
“Eh, just lying around the house. I was wondering what you’re doing tonight?”
I got up to leave ear shot so Mel couldn’t hear. “Um, nothing that I know of, why?”
“Well, I was wondering if you’d want to hang out and maybe catch a movie,” he proposed.
I took a minute to think. It’s dark, short, and you don’t have to talk a lot. “Sure,” I said smiling. “What time?”
“How about six?” he asked.
“Sounds perfect,” I smiled.

I flew home after work, and washed up and got ready for the movie. I had no idea what we were seeing, but whatever it was, I was excited to see Sidney it. I was finishing my make-up and Sid called. “Hello,” I said putting on lip gloss.
“Hey, Raina, I’ll be in there in like five minutes.”
“Okay, I’ll be ready.” We hung up and I hurried and got my things together. I heard a knock at the door and I got excited. I looked through the peephole and seen Sidney. I smiled and opened the door and greeted him with a hug. “Hey,” I said embracing him.
“Hey, girlie,” he said matching my smile. “Ready?”
“Yup,” I said shutting the door behind me.
We walked down the hall and walked outside into the cold. Sidney opened my door, just like before. After he got into the driver’s side, he asked, “So, how was work?”
“Pretty good, never a dull moment with those kids,” I said turning off my phone in case of another interrupted call. “How was your trip?”
“Awesome,” Sidney said smiling like a little boy. “We did the craziest shit. Me, Colby, Max, Marc-Andre, and Jordan all went out and went into this cave and all this other shit. They had the best bars! It was awesome, Raina. I think you would have had a blast there.”
Sidney was thinking of me while he were there, other than when we were on the phone? “Aw, that’s sick. Did a bear get cha guys?” I laughed.
“Nope, and if one did come out, we’d throw Colby at him since he’s the lightest. It’d be like a chew toy until it realized there’s no meat.”
We laughed together at the thought of it. “You’re teammates sound like pretty cool guys.”
“They’re awesome. You’re gonna have to hang with us some time. Maybe hit the club or dinner.”
“That’d be fun,” I smiled.
“So, what did you do while I was out and about?”
“My mom and dad came over with my little cousins over the weekend, and that’s about it. Just work and one night Mel and I went to dinner with some friends.”
“That sounds nice. Where’s your favorite place to eat?”
“Anywhere really,” I laughed. “Jay’s probably.”
“Oh, I love stopping in there after practice.”
“Well, I love their fries,” I said licking my lips. Sidney laughed and pulled into a parking space. He bought my ticket and we walked inside. “You did-“
“Yes, I did have to. Want something to eat?”
“Only if you let me pay,” I said grinning.
“Not a chance. What do you want?”
I sighed, knowing there was no point in fighting with a millionaire. “A coke icy, pretzel, and skittles,” I said as he pulled out his wallet. He bought a few different things and we headed into the theater. We sat in the back and there were a few people in front of us.
The movie started and I got comfortable in my seat. After finishing my pretzel, I sat up and Sidney put his arm around me. I didn’t refuse, so I snuggled closer to him. By half way through the movie, I crossed my legs over his and fit right into his body. I noticed a piece of popcorn hit my and looked at Sid, who was trying not to laugh.
“Sidney!” I yelp grabbing the popcorn and throwing a handful at him.
“Raina, it’s not nice to liter!” he said throwing more at me, as it went down my shirt.
“You’re cleaning that up,” I said with a smirk, not realizing what slip from my mouth. I grabbed the rest of popcorn and poured it over his head. We were cracking up as the couple in front of us got annoyed and moved to the front.
“Raina, you’re in a movie theater,” he hissed, trying to be serious.
“Sidney, so are you!” I laughed, as he held my arms back, since I tried throwing a skittle at him. He held my hands at my side and was still laughing. “You’re a faggot,” I said trying to breath. He didn’t help breath much, as his lips crashed down onto mine.
His lips were full and soft. He let go of my arm gently, and held my face. He opened his mouth and slid his tongue into my mouth. I curled my tongue around his, as it worked my mouth skillfully. It was my first kiss in three years, and it felt my first. Absolutely perfect.
Sidney pulled away and we blushed. He cracked a grin and scratching the back of his neck nervously. “Uh, movies over,” he said looking at the screen.
“Yeah, it is,” I said standing up and grabbing my coat. We walked out of the movies and out into the cold air.
“Do you just want to go home, before I make things more awkward?” Sidney asked making me smiling.
“Sure,” I said as he opened the car door for me. The ride home was silent, but it wasn’t because I was mad. I was more shocked than anything, and maybe a bit happy?
We got back to the apartments and Sidney walked me to my place. We reached my door and I looked up at him. “Thanks for night, Sid,” I said taking his hand.
He smiled. “I’m sorry I-“
“Don’t be,” I said putting my finger against his lips. “I’m sorry we didn’t do it sooner.” I smiled at his confused face. “Night, Sid.” I gave him a kiss on the cheek and went inside. Millie came up to me and I picked her up. “He kissed me!” I said snuggling the dog. “Why am I telling you this? You don’t care.” I put her on the ground and sat on the chair in the kitchen. It couldn’t be a more perfect night. I wanted another just the same.

\\.::=Seven=::.//

I woke up on the couch, with Millie at my feet. I groaned at the grey sky, seeing it snowed more. I loved snow, but it’s not very fun sitting at home by yourself. I got up and decided to make food. I threw in toast and made hot chocolate. I wasn’t a coffee person. After I ate, I laid back on the couch with Millie. I didn’t feel like doing much of anything.
My phone started to ring. Fuck. My mom. I totally forgot! I picked up the phone and turned off the tv and seen it was already two o’clock.
“Hello,” I said taking my plates to the sink.
“Raina, sweetie, how are you?”
“Great, mom, how are you?”
“I’m fine. Me and your father are about to leave in about an hour and we’re picking up Macy and Pat and coming to see you.”
Fucking great. “Okay, sweet. Uh, I guess I’ll see ya soon then.”
“Okay, honey, I love you. Bye-bye.”
“Bye, mom,” I said hanging up. “God, why me,” I screamed. I ran around the house cleaning everything up and hoped into the shower. I didn’t bother with my hair and just scrunched it. I put light make-up on and threw on a pair of jeans and a black tee shirt with some socks.
I vacuumed the house and finished just in time. There was a knock at the door and I knew exactly who it was. Millie started to bark and jumped onto my family as I opened the door.
“Raina!” my mom said hugging me. I’ve been on my own for a year and half, and she freaks out every time she comes to visit. “Your place looks amazing!”
“Thanks, mom,” I said as my dad hugged me. “Hi, daddy,” I said smiling.
“Hey, pumpkin, how are you?”
“Pretty good,” I said as Macy and Pat hugged me. “Hey, kiddos,” I said as they wrapped their arms around me. Macy was ten and Pat eight.
We all sat in the living room and I got everyone drinks. “So, about this date last night,” my mom said with a grin.
My cheeks got red and I smiled widely, “Yeah, what about it?”
“Who was it?” she shouted. “It’s been years since you’ve been on a date with someone else.”
“Well,” I said trying to find believable words. I doubt they’ll believe me if I said I went on a date with Sidney Crosby. “I wouldn’t even call it a date. It was more of an evening out.”
“Just tell us who it was, Raina!” my mom yelled getting impatient.
“Sidney Crosby,” I said quickly.
They all looked at me with a blank face. “What? Come again?” my dad said dumbfounded. He was a huge sports fan and worked for the sports section in the new paper. He could name every player on every team for football, hockey, basket ball, and baseball.
“Sidney. He’s 21, and plays hockey. You might have heard of him, dad,” I said trying to cover up the big deal.
My family was quiet. “He’s the hot one, right?” Macy asked with her head cocked to side.
I couldn’t help but smile. “Yes, the hot one.”
“Raina, that’s a big deal! I mean, you dating again is a deal, but are you sure you want to move on with a hockey star?”
I twiddled with my thumbs. I looked up at her and shrugged. “I’m not even sure if I’m going to date him, guys. I’m scared.”
“Of?” my dad asked.
“Getting hurt or something happening again. And what if Justin doesn’t want me to be with someone else?”
“Raina,” my mom said getting up and sitting next to me, “Justin would want to see you happy. Remember that note he wrote for you? He said to hold back on finding love. He doesn’t want to see you die alone, sweet heart.” I nodded as I started to cry. My mom pulled me into a hug. “Have you told Sidney about him yet?”
I looked at her like she was crazy. “Why would I tell a stranger my personal life so soon? I don’t want him to think I’m so basket case either, thanks. Now, what do you want for dinner?” I said standing up. I wanted to be far from this conversation.

The awkwardness slide by after a while, and they left around nine o’clock. I cleaned up the house and went into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and took off my jeans and threw them into the basket. I took off my make-up and went to lie in bed.
I stared at my ceiling and sighed. I looked at the clock and it read 11:07. So much for Sid- Never mind. My phone rang and looked at the caller id. Sidney. I got butterflies as I hit talk. “Hello,” I said, trying not to sound too happy, or tired.
“Hey, Raina,” he said quietly.
“Hi, Sid, how are you? What’s up?”
“I’m pretty good, just sitting my hotel room. I’m waiting for Colby to come back with food.”
“Ooh, so I take it as you don’t have much time to talk,” I said with a chuckle, but kind of bummed.
He laughed. “I never have time for myself, but I’ll make time for you,” he said sweetly.
“You’re corny, Crosby,” I laughed. “So, how was the press?”
He sighed, “I’m surprised I still have an arm left. They made people turn off their cameras at one point. It was nuts. This one group of girls tried sneaking into my hotel room tonight. I left to get ice and they like ran after me,” he laughed.
“I would’ve kicked them,” I said, causing Sid to laugh more.
“Are you gonna watch any of the games?”
I smiled. The thought of seeing Sidney sweating, working hard, and… mmmm… “Of course I will. What time?”
“Uh, I think it’s like at 10 there,” he laughed.
“You’re lucky I like you,” I slipped. Oh, fuck.
“Extremely lucky,” he said softly. “So, what did you do today?”
“My parents came over with my baby cousins.”
“Well, that sounds fun. How’d it go?”
“Alright,” I lied. “So, what are you doing now?”
“Just laying here, watching tv. Colby just walked in.”
“Ooh, well, I’ll let you go.”
“Are you sure?” he asked disappointed.
“Yeah, I have to get a good night sleep anyways. I’ll text you tomorrow if you want.”
“Please do!” he said excitedly.
I laughed. “Okay. Good night, Sidney.”
“Sweet dreams. Good night, Raina.” I hung up and plugged my charger in. I laid in bed and looked out of the window. Millie jumped up on the bed and laid at my feet. More snow fell from the dark sky and on to my balcony. It was a pretty lonely night. I guess being alone forever would suck. Maybe that’s why Justin told me just go for it.
Throughout night the night, I couldn’t sleep at all. I would wake up every 30 minutes. I sighed and looked at the clock. Only one o’clock. I picked up the phone and called Sidney. I’d feel bad for waking him up if he was sleeping, but I doubted he was.
“Hello?” he answered with the tv in the background.
“Hey, Sid,” I said acting like it wasn’t a random phone call.
“Is everything okay?” he asked worried.
“Yup, what’s up?”
“Uh, nothing really, sitting around with Colbs. Are you sure you’re alright. What time is it there, like one?”
“Yeah, I just couldn’t sleep.”
I heard a voice yell in the background and ask who Sid was talking to. “It’s Raina,” Sid answered.
“HI RAINA!” I heard Colby yell in the background. I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Tell you’re oddball friend, hi,” I said still laughing. We talked for a good hour and half about goofy things him and Colby have done together. I started to get tried and realized it was almost three. “Well, you have a big day tomorrow. I better let you go,” I said yawning.
“Yeah, and you sound beat. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
“Alright, good night once again,” I said smiling.
Sid laughed. “Good night, Raina.” I hung up the phone and my head hit the pillow, and I was out.

IMPORTANT: Before reading this chapter, so you're not left out on anything, re-read chapter FIVE. I accidently posted it and forgot I didn't add that last part which is the game and Raina and Mel's talk. Please read. Thank you and comment. :D

AND CONGRATES ON THE PENS MAKING THE PLAYOFFS! xD

Friday took forever to roll around! I thought I was going to explode from exciting. Why though? I thought I told myself I didn’t want to see anyone else after losing Justin? I think I was having a different outlook on everything after meeting Sidney.
After work, I said good-bye to Mel and headed home. I called Sidney to let him know I was done and finalize our plans. After two rings, he picked up.
“Hello,” he answered in a happy voice.
“Hey, Sid, it’s Raina.”
“I know, silly! How was work?”
“Eh, crazy as always,” I laughed. “So, where are we going again?”
“Well, Max wants me to go to a club, but I really want to take you to dinner. So, it’s your call.”
I took a moment to think. A club’s an easy was to avoid conversation and just have a good time. But also, dinner is a good way to find out if I really want to start over again. “Dinner it is,” I said opening up my heart.
“Awesome. I have the best place to go! It’s pretty laid back.”
I smiled thinking about it. “Alright, well what time should I be ready?”
“How about seven o’clock? I can pick you up?”
“Are you sure? I don’t want to bother you.”
“I want to. No worries.”
I couldn’t stop smiling. “Okay. I guess I’ll see you at seven,” I said after giving him my address.
“I can’t wait! Talk to ya then. Bye Raina.”
“See ya, Sid.” I hung up and jumped into shower. I only had two hours to get ready. I did my hair, makeup, and put on nice clothes.

I brushed my teeth and threw a piece of gum in my mouth. I was petting Millie when I heard a knock at my door. I smiled and got up. “Hey, Sid,” I said giving him a hug as Millie ran over to him and started to beg.
“Hey, Raina, you look great,” he said smiling and bending down to pet Millie.
“Thanks. Millie, get away from Sidney! I’m sure those pants weren’t cheep.”
Sidney laughed. “Don’t worry about it. Cute dog,” he said petting her. “What kind is she?”
“A Pomeranian, she only about four years-old,” I said grabbing my purse.
“Well, she seems well trained for a little dog.”
I laughed, “Thanks, normally she’s not sniffing people are ten minutes when they first come in.” Sid chuckled and stood up, brushing the fur off of him. “Oh, I’m sorry, Sid,” I said noticing the fur. “I’ll get you a lint brush. What did I tell you, Millie?” I said staring at the dog.
Sidney just laughed. “Raina, it’s fine,” he said grabbing my hand. “Let’s just go.”
I relaxed a bit and smiled. We walked out of the apartment, I locked the door, and we headed outside. “So, where are we going?” I asked curiously as we walked down the steps.
“It’s a small restaurant in Southside. Do you like sushi?”
I nodded, “Love it.”
It was a comfortable silence and Sidney reached for his iPod. “Wanna pick out some music?” he asked handing it to me.
“Sure,” I smiled taking it from him. I frowned looking at all the country music. “Come on, Sid,” I said rolling my eyes, “you have to have something good on here.”
“What? You don’t like my music?” he asked disappointed.
I just looked at him with a serious face before saying, “No.”
“Well, I have Three Days Grace on there. I know you like them,” he said smiling. The ride wasn’t too long till we reached South Side. Sidney parked on the street not too far from the place. “Ready?” he asked shutting off the car.
I looked outside and shook my head. “Nah, I rather just chill in here,” I said sarcastically. Sidney rolled his eyes with a chuckle. I got out of the car and he led me up the side walk. He opened the door for me and we were seated in a booth. “This place is pretty cool,” I said looking around.
“You’ve never been here before?” Sid asked looking at menu.
“Nope,” I said taking off my coat. The waitress came over ask what we’d like to drink. Sidney ordered water and I got myself a coke. “So, how do you like Pittsburgh?” I asked as she walked away.
“It’s amazing. I can’t imagine a more beautiful city to live in with such great people. Have you lived here your whole life?”
“Pretty much,” I said as the waitress came back with our drinks. She gave Sidney a wink and strutted off looking back at him. I couldn’t help but laugh.
“What?” Sidney asked with a chuckle.
“Do girls always throw themselves out there for you?”
“No, you haven’t yet,” he said with a wink. I rolled my eyes. A guy walked over to Sidney, and he was someone from the team, I just couldn’t remember who.
“Hey, Darryl!” he said slapping Sid on the back. “Ah, I see you got a little date going on,” he said giving me a wink.
“Uh, yeah, Max. Can I help ya?” Sidney said looking up at him.
“Well, I came in here to get Gronk, but since I seen my buds here, I thought I’d come say hello. So, hello!” he said in a French accent.
“Well, hello, Maxime. Are you two going to Diesel?” Sidney asked as ‘Gronk’ walked over.
“Yup, are you two up for it, after eating?” Max asked, staring at me.
“No, thanks, Max,” Sidney said, getting annoyed.
“Whatever, golden boy,” he laughed. “See you tomorrow!”
The two guys left and Sidney sighed. “I’m sorry about that. I didn’t plan for him to be in here.”
I just smiled and nodded. “It’s cool. So, where’s your next game?”
“Edmonton,” he said with a huge smile. “It’s my first time playing in western Canada in the NHL.”
I couldn’t help but be happy for him. “Well, I wish you the best of luck, Sid,” I said smiling.
“Thanks. The media’s going to be crazy though,” he said as the waitress came back to take out order. After ordering, Sidney continued. “Everyone’s really crazy up there about meeting me. I don’t think much of myself, but apparently, they do,” he said taking a drink of water.
“Where all are you playing at?” I asked feeling my phone start to buzz.
“After Edmonton, we’re going to Calgary, and then Van Cover.”
“That’s awesome!” My phone started ringing again. “Sidney, I’m really sorry but I have to take this call.”
“Ooh, no problem,” he said as I got up.
I walked into the bathroom answering my phone. “Hello,” I said seeing it was my mom.
“Raina, dear, how are you?”
“Mom, I’m kind of out on a date thing.”
“What?!” my mom shouted into the phone.
“Yeah, is this important?”
“Well, not really. I just want to see if we could come out this weekend with your cousins.”
“Ooh, sure. Whatever, I have to go, mom. I’m sorry.”
“Well, you better call me after this!”
“Yeah, yeah, mom. Love you. Bye.” I hung up and rolled my eyes. I walked back to my seat, seeing Sidney talking to a group of girls around him. “Excuse me,” I said pushing passed one to get to my seat.
“Hey, Raina,” Sidney smiled. “Well, it was nice meeting you ladies,” he said politely.
“Same to you, Sid!” they yelled hugging him. They walked away and I started giggling to myself.
“Sorry about that,” he said as our food came.
“It’s chill. That’s your job. This show looks amazing,” I said getting away from the conversation.
“Sure does,” he said taking a bite.
“So, where are you from, Sid?” I wanted to know more about the kid. Something was telling me go for it. Love is blind, I guess.
“Halifax, Nova Scotia. It’s in Canada.”
“Go figure. How long have you been playing hockey?”
“I think I learned how to put on a pair of skates before shoes,” he laughed. “I learned how to skate as soon as I learned how to walk.”
“That’s awesome. I used to play for fun in high school.”
“Sweet, are ya any good?”
“No way,” I laughed. “So, how old are you?”
“Twenty-one, you?”
“I’ll be twenty in January.”
“So, what made you want to work with kids?”
“I’m not too sure, honestly. I always loved kids, and baby sat all the time. They’re just so fun and always keep you smiling. Sure, they can be frustrating, but they’re a bundle of joy. You said you help with kids in hockey, right?”
“Yeah, I’m starting an organization for kids who can’t afford it. I’m hoping it get it going by next season. Maybe I can start it off with some of the kids in your day care,” he said smiling.
“I think that’d be the coolest thing ever, Sid,” I said smiling. By this time, I was getting stuffed.
“Desert?” he asked with a chuckle.
“Are you trying to make me fat, Crosby?” I shot back at him.
“That’s how I like my women!” he said laughing. The waitress came back and handed us a check.
“Can we get se-“
“Here you go,” Sidney said cutting me off and handing the girl money. “Keep the change as a tip.”
“Thank you, sir,” she said smiling.
“Sidney,” I hissed. “I can pay for myself!”
“So? I offered to take you out. So, I pay for the dinner,” he smiled, putting on his coat.
I shook my head and did the same. We walked outside and snow covered the whole place. We walked down the street and went to walk across. Sidney grabbed my hand, seeing a big sheet of ice. “Since you’re not the best hockey player, I better help ya out,” he laughed.
“Fuck you.” We both laughed and kept walking. We got back to Sidney’s Range Rover and he opened the door for me. He got inside and turn on the car and heat full blast. He looked over at me and smiled. “What?” I blushed.
“Nothing,” he said putting on his belt and pulling out of the spot. “So, do have work tomorrow?”
“Nope, thank God,” I sighed. “What time’s your flight?”
“Eight. Blah!” he said sticking out his tongue. “So, did you like the game the other night?”
“I fucking loved it!” I said smiling. “I can’t believe you put us in the same room as Mario!”
Sidney smiled, “Well, my parents have seats in there, and anytime they don’t come, I have them sitting around. So, why not give them to a beautiful girl.” I blushed and looked out the window. “Mario said he had a blast. He was telling me how much fun you two were.”
“Really, that’s awesome!” I said smiling.
“Yeah, he said I should invite you more often.” I couldn’t help but smile, which wasn’t anything different from what I did when I was around him. Sidney got back to my apartment and walked me in. “Thanks for going out with me this evening, Raina. I really enjoyed your company.”
I smiled and as he held my hand. “Thanks for taking me out. I know I’m an extremely lucky girl,” I said, stepping closer to him.
“I’m a lucky guy,” he said smoothly. “Can I call you tomorrow after meetings and stuff? I’m gonna need to talk to someone to wind down,” he smiled.
“Of course you can.” Sidney got a little close to me stared at me. I panicked. “Well, I better let you go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
I could see him face drop a bit. “Okay. Good night, Raina.” He hugged me and waved bye.
“Night, Sid.” I opened the door and quickly shut it. I slid to the floor and leaned against the door. Millie ran over to me and licked my hand. How can I look past my past and get my heart out there again?

\\.::=Five=::.//

Mel Rubbish: 24. Day care worker with Riana. Single. Sweet, loving, outgoing, thoughtful, and talented. Plays piano and sings.
On the way home, I filled Mel in on what happened. “And he invited me to the game tomorrow,” I said smiling ear to ear.
“What? You’re kidding. Please, tell me you’re kidding,” she said laughing.
“Sorry,” I laughed. “But, he gave me two, so if you want, you can come too.”
“Are you sure?” she asked excitedly as I nodded. “Ooh my God! Thank you so much, Raina!” she said hugging me. “We’re going shopping after this!”
I laughed and sighed, “Whatever you say.” After we got back and parents picked up all the kids, we headed to the mall and searched for the best outfit. “I’m nervous, Mel!” I said looking through racks of clothes.
“You at least talk to him before! I’m scared,” she laughed. “So, what’s he like?” she asked with a grin.
“Well, he’s very sweet and helpful. He’s definitely not like any other man. He loves helping out with kids.”
“Wait, how did you run into this guy anyways?” she asked looking at a blue shirt.
“Don’t get it,” I said making her put it back down. “Well, after work, I went to set up a few things and he came in the room after practice looking for a soccer ball. He started talking about what it was for and what he does for the kids. Then, he helped me set up and told me he’d see me tomorrow.”
“You’re so damn lucky, Riana,” Mel huffed.
“Sorry,” I laughed. After looking at clothes, we bought a few things, and headed home. “I’ll see ya at work,” I said dropping her off at the day care to go home in her car.
“See ya! And thanks a bundle!” she smiled getting out of the car. I drove home and looked at the time. It was nearly seven o’clock. One hour left till I could talk to Sid. I made myself dinner and tidied up the house. After I ate, and cleaned the kitchen, I looked at the time again. It was now three till eight. I picked up the phone and found Sidney’s number. I nervously hit send and gave him a call.
“Hello,” he said with little voices in the back ground.
“Hey, Sid, it’s Riana. I was just calling about directions.”
“Ooh, hey. How are you?”
“I’m fine, and yourself?”
“I’m doing swell. So, are you sure you really want to go tomorrow? It’s fine to say no,” he laughed.
“What?” I asked in shock. “Why would I say no?” I laughed. “I’m really excited.”
“Awesome,” he said in an excited voice. “So, who are you bringing?”
“Mel. She works at the day care with me. Is that alright?”
“Of course,” he laughed.
“Now about those directions,” I said not wanting to take up much of his time. He gave me the fastest way to get there and where to park. “Thanks, a bunch, Sid,” I said smiling.
“No problem. I was wondering what you’re doing after the game?”
My heart skipped a beat. “Uh,” I said trying to find words quickly. I didn’t think a night out on the town so soon was a great idea. “Well, I’m not totally sure. I have work really early in the morning, so I can’t stay out late. And I’m sure traffic won’t be too pretty,” I said trying to make it a light conversation.
“Ooh, yeah of course. I understand,” he said trying not to sound disappointed.
I sighed. “Don’t think I’m blowing you off, Sid. I just can’t do much on week nights. Those kids put in a long day.”
He laughed. “I’m sorry. I didn’t even think about that. How about, on Friday before I leave for Florida?”
I took a moment to think. “I’ll let you know.”
“Awesome! Well, I better get the kids to bed and let you get ready for bed. Thanks for accepting.”
“Of course,” I said with a smile bigger than ever. “See ya tomorrow, Sid.”
“See ya. Good night, Riana.”
“Night,” I said and hung up. I smiled to myself and set the phone down. I haven’t felt like this in years. It was hard to accept something like this though. It’s been almost three years since Justin’s been killed. But a part of me still felt devoted, even though I had a broken heart. My mornings and nights are the hardest. I was always used to falling asleep in Justin’s arms and waking up to his face, watching over me as I slept. Every morning and night I think about his scent, looks, touch, and personality. I just have to except it will never be the same.

The next day seemed to go by so slow. I hurried the kids out with their parents and shut and locked the door. I slid down it and looked at Mel with a huge smile. “Ready?”
She looked over at me grinning. “Of course I am! Are you going to pick me up?”
“Yep, I’ll be there around five forty or something?”
“Whatever you can do, just call me before you leave.”
“Will do, see ya!” I grabbed my purse and coat and headed home. I ran inside and said a quick hello to Millie. I ran into the shower and washed up. I dried my hair and straightened it. I put on blush, eye liner, mascara, and a dark grey eye shadow.
I ran to my closet and pulled out my new outfit.

After prepping, I called Mel to let her know I was on my way. I sped to her house and picked her up.
She got in the car with a bright smile. “I’m so excited!” she yelled.
“I know,” I said joining her excitement. “I wonder where our seats are.”
“Probably a box with a television and room service!”
I smiled thinking about it. We drove to the arena singing to Bon Jovi. I pulled into the parking garage and parked the car. I looked at Mel who couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear. “Let’s go!” she said jumping out of the car. I shook my head laughing and joined her. “Will we get to met him?” she asked hopeful.
“I have no idea,” I shrugged. My phone then started ringing and I looked at my caller ID. I looked at Mel with a smile and got butterflies. “It’s him! Be quiet!” I said pressing talk. “Hello,” I answered, trying to keep my excitement down.
“Hey, Riana,” he greeted. “Are you here yet?”
“Yup, we’re actually walking to the arena now.”
“Well, can you meet me by the players’ parking lot? I have your tickets. I figured it’d be easier.”
I started jumping up and down a little. “Sure! I’ll be right there.”
“Okay. See ya.” He hung up and I looked at Mel.
“Let’s go get our tickets from the man himself!” I said loudly. We practically ran to the lot seeing Sidney standing outside in his gear and wearing yellow crocs. Damn, he’s hot! We walked closer to him and a guard stopped me. “Sorry, you can’t pass this. Players only.”
I looked at Sidney and yelled. “Sid!” The guard started to say something and Sidney ran over.
“Hey, sorry, I didn’t see ya there,” he laughed. “Here ya go, beautiful,” he said handing me the tickets.
“Thanks so much, Sidney. Oh, Sid, this is Mel. She’s my friend and works at the daycare with me.”
“Nice to meet you,” he said giving her a firm handshake. “Are you sure you don’t want to go out after the game?” he asked with a hint of hope in his voice.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Crosby. But we’re definitely on for Friday,” I said smiling.
“Awesome! Hope we put on a good show for you two ladies,” he said with a grin.
“Well, you better hurry your little ass in there and get to work then,” I said with a smile.
“Yeah, you’re right. Well, at least come down after the game to say bye,” he said smiling. With those perfect teeth!
“Of course,” I said as he pulled me into a tight hug.
“Awesome, it was nice meeting you, Mel,” he said giving her a hug as well.
“Same to you, Mr. Crosby,” she said, surprising me she could still speak.
“It’s Sid,” he said with a chuckle. “Bye, Raina. Ooh, and just come out here after. Text me.”
“Okay. Good luck!” I called to him as we started walking away. We barely got ten feet as Mel started freaking out.
“Oh, God! We just talked to Sidney freaking Crosby!” she yelled as we got to the doors. We talked about how sweet and what a gentleman he was to us, and how Mel swears he was flirting with me. I know it was obvious, but I didn’t want to get too far ahead of myself.
We looked at our tickets and went to see where our seats were. “He fucking hooked us up,” I said staring at them.
“Huh?” she said looking at them. Yep. They were box seats and probably the best ones. “This is sweet,” she said breathlessly. “Let’s go!” she said grabbing me hand. We decided to try and find our seats on our own. Took a good fifteen minutes, but made it just in time. I got to the door and walked in.
“Holy shit,” I said looking inside. There he was himself, Justin’s idol, Mario Lemieux. He would always talk about how great he was, how much he looked up to him, and how he almost cried when he met him. Leave it up to Justin. I couldn’t help but smile thinking about it.
“Go,” Mel said poking me in the back. “Say something at least.”
I nervously walked and the room got silent and turned. “Hi,” I spoke, with my voice shaking.
“Hello, girls,” Mario said with a smile. “You must be the two Sidney invited. You can sit right up here,” he said pointing to a row in front of them. “I’m Mario, by the way.” He extended his hand and took a few steps towards us.
“Nice to meet you, Mister Lemieux,” I said shaking his hand. “This is my friend, Mel, and I’m Raina.”
“Nice to meet you both,” he said smiling. “This is my wife Nathalie, and my kids, Austin and Alexa. Lauren and Stephanie are at their grandparents.”
“Nice to meet you all,” I said waving and smiling. We took our seats and I looked at Mel. “I feel so awkward,” I whispered.
“So, Raina,” Nathalie spoke up, “have you been to a game before?”
I thought back to my last game. It was Mario’s first game back with Justin. He was so ecstatic to see Mario again. “Yeah, actually it was Mr. Lemieux’s first game back,” I said smiling.
“Really?” Mario asked smiling. “And just call me Mario,” he said smiling. “Did you have fun?”
“Yeah,” I said smiling, thinking about it. “I used to go a lot. But I got tied up with a lot of things and just didn’t have spare time.”
“That’s understandable. How long have you been a fan?”
“Since I saw you guys win the cup in Chicago. Great game by the way,” I said smiling.
“You were there?!” Mario asked in excitement. I nodded. “How old were you?”
“Four. My dad had to move to Chicago for a year for work, so we went with him and got hooked on hockey. But when you guy faced them in the playoffs, I couldn’t stop but cheer for you guys.”
“That’s awesome,” Mario said with a bright smile. We hushed up as soon as the lights went down and they did the intro to the game. We cheered as the team flew out onto the ice and stood for the national anthem.
The game started and I started to get really into it. Mario was giving me high fives every time there was a power play or a great play. He ordered pizza for us and drinks. “How awesome is this, Mel?” I said taking a bite of the pizza.
“Pretty hot,” she said setting down her food. “Ooh! That game!” she said smiling. “Pretty good, I think Sid’s showing off a bit,” she grinned.
I rolled my eyes. “Shut up,” I laughed as he passed Tyler Kennedy the puck and he scored. We stood on our feet and cheered. There were only five minutes left, and the Penguins were leading the Coyotes 3-1. We won the game and I just couldn’t wait to get home and fall asleep after a long day.
“Thanks for everything Mario,” I said shaking his hand. “It was a pleasure meeting you and your family.”
“Same to you two,” he said shaking both of our hands. “This was the most fun I had at a game in a while.”
“I’m glad to hear that. Well, I’m going to say thanks to Sid and say bye.”
“Alright, hope to see you again sometime.” I said goodbye to the kids and Nathalie too. “Let’s go see that stud muffin,” I said with a grin to Mel.
“Thanks for taking me tonight Raina. It was awesome!”
“No problem,” I said smiling. “I wouldn’t want to take anyone else.” I texted Sidney to let him know I was heading out, and to my surprise, he texted back quickly.
Awesome! I’ll go out now before interviews.
“Excited to see your lover?” Mel said nudging my arm.
I blushed. “Mel, stop. I really don’t think I’m interested him. Yeah, he’s cute, sweet, all of that, but I-“
“Raina,” Mel said stopping me and holding my shoulders. “You can’t keep living the past. I understand you miss Justin, and think you shouldn’t see other people. But, don’t you think he would want to see you happy?”
I looked down at the ground. Would Justin mind seeing me with someone else? Would he want me to actually see other people, instead of living alone for the rest of my life? I started to tear up but tried to hold back. I didn’t want Sidney to see me like that.
“Common,” Mel said grabbing my hand. We saw Sidney walking toward the gate and I got random butterflies.
We met eye contact and I smiled. “Hey, girlies,” he said smiling. “Did you two have fun?”
“Yes!” I said smiling. “I can’t believe we had box seats with Mario Lemieux! Thank you so much, Sid.”
He blushed. “I’m happy you liked it. Mel, did you have a nice time?”
“Yeah man!” she yelled. “That was fucking sweet!”
Sidney laughed. And God, was it adorable! “Well, thanks guys for coming. It means a lot.”
“It was a blast, Sid. Thanks,” I said smiling. “So, Friday, right?”
“Yup, I’ll call you tomorrow night and tell you what’s up.”
“Okay. I’ll talk to ya later.”
Sidney pulled Mel into a hug and said good-bye and then held my hand and pulled me closer to him. He hugged me and kissed my cheek. “Good night, Raina.”
I blushed and smiled at him. Even though he smelled awful, and was dripping with sweat, I loved hugging his strong body. “Night, Sidney.”

\\.::=Four=::.//

I just up earlier than usual the next day, and took a shower. I dried my hair and straightened it. Not much about my physical looks have changed over three years. I was still the same blone haired, blue eyed, short, skinny Raina. I was thankful for my boobs filling out, though. I guess I should thank my lucky stars there. It was a pretty cold day out, so I grabbed a pair of skinny jeans and a pair of white furry boots. I put on a white shirt with a long black sweater that tied in the middle. I put on my make up, and made sure I had everything packed and ready to go.
I headed to the day care and met the parents and kids early. We had to keep they busy before it was time to go to the practice. We were leaving at 9:30, so we could make it by 10:00. Mel, the other woman who helped with the kids, was getting the cards and stuff ready to go. We had the kids make thank you cards for the players and signs. The bus arrived and we piled the children on.
We got to the ice rink, and took them inside. We quickly took them to the bathroom and showed them the party room, where they set their stuff down and then headed out to the bleachers. They knew better to not be loud, disruptive, or rude. There were a few other children there, making a racket of noise, and banging on the glass. I just ignored them, and waiting for the players to come out. An older man came up beside me dressed in a suit and tie, with a Bluetooth in his ear. “Are you Miss Raina Lowstack?”
“Yes, I am,” I said confused.
“Mister Crosby would like to speak with you.” He walked down the steps, and I took in what he said before running after him. He led me into the locker room, where there were players everywhere getting ready. He took me into a small meeting room where there were a few interviews leaving. The man left me in there, as Sidney walked up to me.
“Hey, Raina,” he said grinning. He pulled me into an unexpected hug. “How are you?”
“Great, and you?” I asked nervously.
“Couldn’t be better,” he said with a smile. “I had some people fix up the room a bit for you, and get food and stuff. Oh, and I got the pop out for you.”
I smiled, “Thanks, Sid.”
“Yup, oh and I was wondering something. What are you doing tomorrow night?”
“Nothing really, why you ask?”
“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to come to my game. I have two tickets and they’re right behind the net.”
I stood there speechless. “Are you sure? Like, dead serious?”
He smiled and nodded. “Of course,” he laughed. “Just got to the door and tell them You’re Raina Lowstack and they’ll give you the tickets.
“Wow,” I said pulling on the ends of my hair. “Thank you so much, Sid. But, I have no idea how to get there.”
“Just call me tonight and I’ll give you directions.”
“Thank you so much, Sid,” I said still smiling, as he wrote down his number.
“No problem. Well, I better get out on the ice.”
“And I better help Mel with the rug rats,” I said with a chuckle. He led me out and waved good bye. I ran back to my seat in the bleachers and Mel looked over at me.
“Miss Raina, do you know Sidney Crosby?!” “Is he nice?!” “How did you get back there?” “When’s lunch?” and “Did you kiss him?!” were all asked as the kids hopped up and down. I hushed them down, and the players came out onto the ice. After practice was over, we took the kids into the party room. I walked in and was blown away. Sidney really did more than he had to. He had penguin plates, napkins, and cups, along with a new banner and table cloth. I was impressed.
We got the kids feed and cleaned up. We sat them down to do an activity on sports, when there was a knock at the door. “Raina, can you get that?” Mel asked as she worked on getting things under control.
“Sure,” I said walking towards the door. I opened it up to see Sidney, Marc-AndrĂ©, and three other guys. “Hey, Sid, what’s up?” I was so confused at this point.
“Hey, just came to sign a few things,” he said with a grin. He walked past me and handed all the kids pucks and miniature sticks. The guys started to sign things, and Sidney walked over to me. “That’s Gino, Max, and Sykie.”
“Oh, I’m all caught up now,” I laughed. “You know, Sid, you really didn’t have to do this.”
“Do what?” he asked grinning.
I glared at him. “You know what I mean, Crosby. But, we have to wrap up soon.” I honestly didn’t want to leave, he made actually want to talk to someone new, and be out there again.
“Okay, we’ll finish quickly.” With that, he went back to signing things and Mel and I cleaned up. After we got the kids on the bus, Sidney ran up to me before I got on.
“Don’t forget to let me know about tomorrow!” he said holding his car keys in one hand, and fixing his ball cap with the other.
I couldn’t help but smile. “Sure, I’ll call you at like eight?”
“Sounds great,” he said with a smile wider than mine. “See ya!” he said waving and walking to his car.
This could be a new beginning. <3

Almost 3 Years Later; December 12, 2007
“Okay, kids,” I called out to the five year olds, “time to grab your things and go home. Remember, be on good behavior tomorrow!”
“I will!” Mark yelled putting on his coat. I said good bye to the kids, and grabbed a box and headed out to my car. They were going to a Penguin practice for the day and I wanted to set up everything early. I got to the rink early and headed down stairs to start in the small party room. It was big enough to hold my day care kids, about 15 of them.
I started unpacking the stuff and listening to 3 Days Grace. I started to put on table cloths, and get the cups and plates out. There was a knock at the door, and they pushed it open slightly. “Come in,” I called, turning the music down.
A tall, muscular man walked in, with a gorgeous smile and dark hair. He was in workout clothes, which cling tight to his body. His face looked so familiar, but I couldn’t put a name to it. His legs were huge, but bow legged. They were the size of tree trunks, and his arms were perfect. I could only imagine what his stomach was like. Stop thinking about it, Raina! I still wasn’t ready for a relationship again. I felt guilty being with another man.
“Hey, I was wondering if there was a soccer ball in here,” he said looking in the corners.
“Ooh, here you go,” I said picking it up off the ground by a chair. “Sorry, I didn’t know what to do with it.”
“It’s fine,” he said with a smile. “The guys and I just wanted to play an arousing game of football, as Gino says.”
“Nice,” I said with a smile. God, what do I say to this man?!
He nodded. “So, what brings you here? Birthday party?”
“Nah, my day care is coming to the Penguin practice tomorrow and we’re using this room. Do you work here or something?” I asked pulling out a banner that said Let’s go Pens! “Actually,” he said taking the other end of the banner, “I’m with these guys.”
My mind went blank. I felt like an ass for not knowing who this man was, but I still couldn’t remember! “Ooh, well I’m sorry. I’ve been really busy and haven’t been able to study the roaster much anymore. Work’s overwhelming.”
He just grinned. “It’s okay. I’m Sidney Crosby,” he said extending his hand.
“Nice to meet you, I’m RainaLowstack.”
“Raina, nice to meet you as well,” he said grinning widely, making my knees week, and not wanting to look away from his eyes. “So, you’re a day care worker?” he asked pulling his hand away.
“Yes, I am. I started going to school to become a teacher, but some problems got in the way, and I figured I could qualify for a day care. I pretty much run the whole thing, taking the kids places, trying to keep them active. “
“That’s awesome, I love kids. I help with schools and teams to get kids out playing hockey. So, what time you coming tomorrow?”
“Well, we’re having a bus take us here around 10:00 and show them around a bit, go to the bathroom, and get seat, so by eleven they have no reason to get up,” I said with a laugh.
“Good idea,” he said sharing the smile. “Do you need any help setting up?”
“I’d hate to ask, but I kind of need help putting this banner up. If you can get someone in to help, that’s be-“
“Where’s the thumbtacks?” he asked looking around the box.
“Really, Mister Crosby-“
“It’s Sid,” he said flashing a grin. “Ah- ha!” he said pulling them out of the box.
Someone else came into the room, very tall, skinny, and dark hair with a perfect smile. “Sidney, what the hell are you doing? We’ve been waiting forever!” he said in a very think French accent.
“Hold on, Marc. I’ll be there a minute. I’m just helping Raina set up. Here’s the ball.”
He gave him a ‘you have some explaining to do \' look. “Alrighty,” he said catching the ball and walking out.
“Sorry, that was Marc-Andre. He’s our goalie.”
“Really, Sidney, if you don’t want to help you can leave. I feel bad holding you back from your team mates.”
“Don’t be,” he said with a smile. “They’re just jealous they didn’t come looking for the ball.” He gave me a wink and took out the pop bottles. “Do you want these in the fridge? I can put them away for you and get them tomorrow so they’re cool.”
“That’d be great,” I said smiling.
“I’ll get cha hooked up.” Sidney was a great help setting up, and for that I’m very thankful. It only took fifteen minutes and I was ready to head out. “Want me to carry this box out for you?” he asked holding the edge of the box.
“No, thanks, I’ll get it tomorrow. Thank you for everything, Sidney.”
“No worries. See you tomorrow at practice.” He pulled me into an unexpected hug and handed me my jacket. “Drive safely.”

I walked into the funeral home trying to be as calm as possible. I was holding onto Jay, Justin’s best friend, and hold back tears. I cried so much over the past five days, I had the headache from hell. I got to the casket and look down at Justin. I couldn’t let go. I let go of Jay’s arm and smooth out Justin’s hair.
“Ooh, Justin,” I whispered, as my voice cracked. I started sobbing and held his cold hands. “Please, God, give him back. Please!” I cried. I laid my head on his chest and cried harder. “I love you, Justin. Please, come back.”
“Raina, come on, sweet heart,” Jay said rubbing my back.
“No, Jay! I don’t want to leave Justin!” I yelled, crying more.
“I know, sweetie,” he said stoking my hair.
Justin’s mom came up behind me and pulled me away from Justin. “Get the fuck off of me!” I yelled. “You didn’t even believe him that none of that was his fault!” I yelled at her. I never had a problem with Justin’s family; it was just that I was mad at everyone that couldn’t help Justin.
“Raina, it’s okay,” Jay said pulling me into a hug.
“Just leave me alone,” I said pushing him away. They walked away into another room as others came to pay their respects.
“So, how’s it going?” The voice gave me chills down my neck and made the hairs on my neck stand up. “You going to sulk your life away, dwelling over Justin? Well, you shouldn’t do that, sweet heart.”
“Kenny, shut the fuck up, you asshole!” I yelled.
“Just remember, there’s no proof me and Matt did it. And if you somehow find away, I’ll be sure that you’re joining Mister Justin Lane.”
“Kenny, I’ll kill you myself,” I said grabbing his shirt. I punched him in the face and the whole room’s attention turned to us. “And Justin will be more then proud of me for doing that,” I hissed. I kissed Justin’s forehead and whispered, “I love you,” and walked away.

A good hundred and some people were standing in the graveyard, and I sat under the tent by Justin’s coffin crying. Kenny didn’t even bother coming in. Jay stood by me trying to keep me calm. After the service was over, I still sat in the car as everyone left.
Jay didn’t rush me. He was Justin’s best friend, and he was trying to be strong for me. He didn’t want to cry and let me down, but he had his breaking moments. I knew it was time to leave, so I took a deep breath and stood up. Jay had to help me walk back to the car. I was such a mess, it was hard to walk.
We went to Justin’s favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh and I sat in the back with Justin’s close friends. Jay sat next to my left and Keith to my right. We tried not to get on the topic of Justin. And if we did, they made sure it was something really funny, so I wouldn’t break down.

That whole week, I didn’t go to school. I didn’t want to do anything or see anyone that was involved with killing Justin. The next Monday, I drug myself out of bed and got ready for school. My parents were very understanding and wanted me to take my time at getting over Justin.
I took a shower, brushed my teeth, and straightened my blonde hair. I put light make up on, jeans, flip flops, a random white tee shirt, and Justin’s hockey hoodie. I grabbed my purse and keys and headed out of my room. “Hey, mom,” I said giving her a hug.
“Good morning, Raina. Do you need a ride? Are you sure you want to go today?” she asked.
“I’m going to drive myself. But thanks.”
“You sure you want to go though?” she asked again.
“Yes, mom, I’m sure,” I said with a weak smile.
She smiled and kissed my check. “Have a good day, sweet heart. Call if you need anything!”
“Will do, mom!” I left the house and drove to school. It seemed everyone’s eyes were on me. It was so strange not hold Justin’s hand going to his locker, and having him walk me to mine. I almost turned right to go to his, but remembered mine was left. It was going to be very hard to get used to. Thankfully, there were only two weeks left. I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

\\.::=One=::.//

Raina Allison Lowstack: Foster child. 17. February 14, 1988. Engaged. 5’6”. Blonde hair, blue eyes. No siblings. Loves watching hockey games, little kids, bonfires, long pointless car rides, and her puppy, Millie. Plays volleyball and has an amazing voice. Has a tattoo of a crown on one hand and a heart on the other by her thumbs.

Justin Zachary Lane: 17. July 29, 1987. Engaged to Raina. 6’4”. Black hair, blue eyes. Brother to Kenny. Loves hockey, reading, nights out on the town, music, and the beach. Plays football and hockey. Few tattoos and gages in his ears.

Ken Sinclair Lane: 16. March 3, 1989. Justin’s brother. 6’. Brown hair, brown eyes. Partier, drinker, smoker, addict, and fuck up. Plays football. Piercings.

Justin met me at my locker after school, and held it open as I grabbed my books. “Ready?” he asked before closing it.
“Yup,” I said holding my books close to my chest. He grabbed my hand and led me to his car. “So, what’s the game plan for tomorrow?” I asked, putting on my seatbelt.
“Well, if my test is negative, we’re going to Amy’s party. If not, I doubt I’ll be seeing much of you for a while,” he said starting up the car. “But we don’t have to worry about that.”
I smiled, “Of course.” I checked my phone and texted Carrie. “So, what all happened with that? I couldn’t really understand with your mom bitching in the back,” I said referring to his test.
“Well,” he said taking in a deep breath, “Kenny stole heroin from Matt and hid it in my room because he didn’t want Matt to find it when he came over. My mom was cleaning my room and found the stash in my baseball card collection, and I had no idea it was there. And of course, she didn’t believe me and we had a ‘family meeting’ with Kenny and my dad.”
“What happened with that?”
“My dad flipped, and I swore on my life I didn’t drugs before, and they can test me and Kenny and they’ll see who the real liar is. So, after I drop you off, that’s where I’m headed. And then Kenny’s ass can get in trouble for it.”
“Does Matt know?”
“Fucking Kenny told him I took it. Like what would I do with it?!”
“You’re brother’s a douche,” I said rolling my eyes.
He sighed, “Tell me about it.” Justin pulled into my drive way and gave me a weak smile. “I’ll call you tonight, baby.”
“Kay, see ya, Justin.” I leaned in and gave him a kiss. “I love you.”
“Love you too, Raina.” I just out of the car and ran inside my house. Justin drove away and I smiled. I loved that kid so much. After three years, touching him never gets old. We were actually engaged and planning to get married after college. He was going to become a doctor, and me a teacher. We were perfect for each other and everyone thought the same. No one could take his place in my life, or love me like he did. The ring was the perfect fit, and symbolized our relationship. I flashed it to everyone I met. We’ve been together since our sophomore year, and he proposed about three months ago.
I worked on my homework for about four hours, finishing up a huge project. Then, I worked on helping my mom with dinner for my father. They were my foster parents. My family died when I was about five, and wasn’t adopted till ten into the greatest life. I had an older brother, Seth, but he died along with my parents in a car accident. I was the only one who survived, but I don’t dread on it.
After dinner, I got a call from Justin around nine. “Hey, love,” I said hoping everything turned out well.
“Hey, Raina,” he said happily. “How’s it going, baby?”
“Alright, how’d everything go?”
“Great! Kenny’s in a shit load of trouble, I’m off the hook, and you will be spending the weekend with me!”
“Damn, I was hoping I could sleep with your brother for a change,” I joked.
Justin let out a laugh, “Have fun with the walking, talking STD.”

The next day, I was straightening my hair, and getting ready for Amy’s party. I put on jeans, yellow flip flops, a red and white stripped cami, and a yellow necklace. I checked my make up, and grabbed my cell phone. I ran down the steps, hearing Justin’s car horn beeping. “Bye mom!” I yelled opening the door.
“Bye! Have fun and be careful!”
“Will do,” I called back and ran out the door. I opened up the car door and planted a kiss on Justin’s lips. “Ready?” I asked putting on my seat belt.
“Of course,” he said pulling out of the drive way. It was about nine, and it was pretty dark. Justin had to park down the street from the party, due to little space. “Let’s go, beautiful,” he said taking my hand. “You know what, Raina?”
“What’s that, Justin?”
“You make my life worth living for. I couldn’t ask for anyone better. You make me want to wake up in the morning, and stay up all night. You’re just such a special girl to me.”
“Aw, thanks, baby.” I gave him a kiss and let go of his hand to pull out my phone. I just sent the text to Jay to let him know we were here, when I heard a gunshot. I looked up and seen Justin fly back and hit the ground. He was shot in his stomach and trying hard to get up. “Justin!” I cried, tear forming in my eyes.
“Raina, run,” he breathed. “I love you. Go get help.”
“I’m not leaving you,” I said holding his hand, calling 911. I spoke to the operator was fast as possible to get help on the way. “Justin, baby, everything will be okay. You’ll make it. Trust me,” I said brushing back his black hair. His breathing was slower and he couldn’t say much. Everyone gathered around him in a panic as the ambulance arrived.
“Raina,” he muttered, “I love you so much. You’re my world, sunshine, and happiness. Don’t ever let go of your hopes and dreams.” He took another breath. “I will always look after you, no matter what. I love you baby.” With that, he started t cough up blood, and the paramedics went to work as fast as they could.
I was about to get into the car, and drive to the hospital, but someone grabbed my hand and jerked me away from the car door. “Where do you think you’re going, Raina?” a deep voice hissed in my ear. “You can tell the police every little fact and detail, but remember one thing; he’s dead.”
I looked at him right in the eye. Matt was about six feet tall, foor inches shorter then Justin, but six inches taller than me. His buzzed head, bushy eye brows, and chapped lips were enough for me to look at. “Look, Matt,” I said getting out of his grasp and pulling on his shirt tightly, to get closer in his face, “Justin will live. And if he doesn’t, I’ll make sure that you die. He did nothing to you and you know that. It was Kenny who stole from you. Not Justin!”
He just snickered in my face. “I know that, silly goose. We set Justin up for this. Better luck next time. Hope you find a new love, sweet heart.” With that, he walked away from me with Kenny at his side. I just sobbed and got into the car and drove to the hospital, hoping to see Justin alive.

I stood at the side of his bed, sobbing holding his hand tightly. Justin laid there lifeless, and the nurse came in to escort me out. They were kind enough to let me in, since I was his fiancĂ©. She came in and handed me a paper. “He told me to write this for you. He really loved you, hun,” she said with a smile.
I looked at Justin and kissed his cheek. “I love you, Justin Zachary Lane,” I whispered before walking out of the room. I sat on the floor in the hall way and opened up the note.

Raina,
I just want you to know how much you mean to me, and I hate that life has its setbacks. I’ll be watching over you, baby. Every day. And don’t hold back from finding love, because I want to see you happy. I can’t express how much I love you, Raina, but I must say you made my life prefect and thank you for all the years of support and care you have given me. This is so hard to say good bye, and I never pictured of it happening this way. I hope Kenny burns in hell for all of this, because I hate to leave you in the world all alone. I love you, Raina. Take care. I’ll meet you there.
Love, Justin.
